Henry & June

June 1, 2012

I’m currently reading “Henry & June” by Anais Nin and the quote above resonated with me so much that I had to make a visual…for Pinterest, of course!

Actually, most of the book has me in quite the trance. I find myself wanting to highlight a lot of the text, but I won’t…because it almost seems sacrilegious. It’s very bizarre. I feel like her writing is so pure that I don’t want to taint it with my neon pink highlighter.

Anais Nin is a relatively new author to me, as I just learned about her about a year ago. I follow the lovely @jonubian on Twitter and she tweets about some of her work from time to time.  I really became interested in her journals, while reading reviews about 50 Shades of Grey.  It was suggested that Anais does the genre better and is hailed by many critics as one of the finest writers of female erotica.  Once I learned she was from France, I was sold!  The Francophile and the Seductress in me were eager to absorb.

I’m only on page 46 but Anais Nin is so full of love…and that’s what draws me to her.  She also has this desire to go and blossom and just be free. I know that feeling all too well.  I mean, how does one find balance in that? She even says at one point, “It is beautiful to love, and to be free at the same time.” YESSSSSSSSSS! Anais Nin is #BoutThatLife, you hear me!  I can’t wait to explore more of her work, once I complete Henry & June.  Like I said, I just started this book but I feel a certain kinship with her already.  She’s my new bestie. LOL!

Henry & June was made into a movie in 1990. Unfortunately, Netflix doesn’t carry the film but it can be purchased from Amazon. Take a look at the clip below. The actress playing Anais is giving me life, just in this short scene.  The mystique, the allure, I love it. It’s all in the eyes, baby!

Have you read Henry & June? Or any other works by Anais Nin?
