Barbados Food & Wine and Rum Festival

November 4, 2011

It was so cold in NYC these past few weeks and I’m talking rain, snow and high temps of 52! With weather like that, it’s only natural that I dream of taking trips to exotic, tropical destinations…right? Well that’s exactly what I’ve been doing and it was nothing but pure joy when I found out about the Barbados Food & Wine and Rum Festival.  Someone, take me there. Please! It would be an excellent birthday present…wink.  And is this not the PERFECT event for my blog?? The combination of Food and Foreign Travel makes me want to indulge even more. But enough about me, I know you’re just as hype as I was to see what it entails.

Island Flavor meets Haute Cuisine

Barbados will present this 4 day culinary festival November 18 – 21, 2011 and promises big names in food including Tom Colicchio, Marcus Samuelsson, Ming Tsai and Vitor Gomes plus local acclaimed Bajan chefs. The event hosted by Travel+Leisure will include chef demonstrations, wine seminars and rum tastings. Some highlights of the event for me include:

  • Indulge in a Bajan style fiesta while “The Rhum Chef” Paul Yellin demonstrates how to prepare local dishes while the kids enjoy their own interactive cooking demonstration.
  • Explore one of the most charming rum distilleries in Barbados at the historic St. Nicholas Abbey.
  • Sip and learn with spirits expert Anthony Giglio at the Wine, Bubbles & Giggles tasting event.
  • Join one of Barbados’ top bands, Massala, for a late night at the beach with pulsating Bajan dance music.

I wanna be on that beach and sipping some rum so I can “Wine To Deh Back” a la Alison Hinds. Actually, stop whatever you’re doing, press play right now and wine for me!!!!!

Imagine this song being played as soon as you step off the plane. Ah, that is exactly how you have to start the weekend! This coupled with the fact that you’re about to partake in the island deliciousness that only the Barbados Food & Wine and Rum Festival can offer…your weekend is guaranteed to be on point.
